Art collector Julian Scrivens was initially ecstatic when he placed the winning bid for a piece of work by the reclusive artist “Banksy”, however the true cost of the work may leave him bankrupt.
When Mr. Srivens arrived to collect the lot, “Girl and Balloon”, he was told that it was on the side of a 2 bedroom terrace in Bristol and had to be taken away within 10 days or forfeited.
Although the winning bid was just over £73,000 the estimated cost of removing the wall, underpinning the house and replacing it is estimated to be in the region of £200,000. Transporting the wall to a suitable display area may cost a further £50,000.
Mr. Srivens was arrested last night outside the house where was found scratching his head and shouting “It’s just a fucking stencil!”
