Red-faced fire officers have apologised 'unreservedly' after a raid on the home of Kate and Gerry McCann in which they expected to find stockpiles of unleaded-ultra petrol.
Speaking from the snooker room at the Cheshire fire and rescue centre Chief Fire Officer Barney McGrew attempted to play-down the incident, blaming out of date radios and Polish call-centre operators for the debacle.
"Mr McCann was quite surprised when we burst in on him, demanding to know the whereabouts of the Gerry Can. It was soon obvious that there was no illegal storage of petrol, in fact we found his garage to be completely empty and absolutely spotless.
He added that he would like to thank Mr McCann for his understanding and remind members of the general public that accelerants should in no circumstance be stored in large quantities in the home.
After a difficult red he went on to win the frame with a break of seventy-nine.
