Sorry but I had to look this one up. Sadly I reckon I am too old for this one.
Some nostalgic stars.Posted 1 year ago # -
I'm glad some people got it, wasn't sure if it was a bit obscure!

5 stars for you AND Kevin Rowland

5* - never crossed my mind that people wouldn't get it - feeling old all of a sudden...

I may be missing something but wasn't this gag done by the Dexys themselves at the time?

Ah, now I get it! Thanks JET

Jet: If its the one I am thinking of it was a famous cock-up by a TOTP producer. (Can't be arsed to watch the Youtube of the brummie pikeys)

Jetfab, that was the cock-up I was referring...never mind.

Given that Kevin Rowland was more than adept at a little self promotion I think he was entireley behind the Jocky Wilson 'cock up'.
In a fine piece of marketing Dexys stole the master tapes to their first album so they could re-negotiate the record deal.

Dexy's midnight runners - the first band to be named in honour of a laxative.
Posted 1 year ago # -
It was a drug, but not a laxative...unless dextroamphetamine gives you the squirts?

Ah, a drug reference. No wonder I didn't get it. Most potent thing I've ever taken is whiskey.

That explains it.I always thought it was deliberate not a cock up.

I got it Waylandy, and even remember the original ToTP. I do believe it was eventually unveiled as deliberate.
Bullseye from me.

Oh, and it would be "Minister" or "Priest", definitely not "Vicar".

Leapy Lee's song would have been appropriate, too.
For those youngsters among you ...Posted 1 year ago #
