Being recognised is one of the occupation hazards of criminals, more so if you are of the habitual variety. One enterprising cosmetic surgeon on the Costa Brava reckons he has found a profitable market niche.
Conventionally my clients will ask for nose alterations, hair transplants and the like,” said Doctor Sandy Hair “ but even the new appearance gets to be recognised. It is only valid up until the next arrest at which time the new face is on Interpol computers in no time.”
“Whole Face Pixelation is my new technique where the entire face is cut into little squares and these squares are placed randomly back onto the clients face. This results in a face just like the ones we see on TV programmes where people don't want to be recognised, sort of blocky and out of focus looking. This approach can last you a life sentence and since all those who have been through the treatment look the same the police have a hard time proving who was captured in the usually poor quality CCTV images”
When asked if the pixelation surgery tended to make the client's face a bit repulsive and hard to look at he replied “I think if you have ever studied the faces of criminals who went down the conventional cosmetic surgery route you would agree that the results are comparable. If you really don't like the pixelated effect I can arrange for a face to pixelated face meeting with one of our clients so you can tell him what it is you don't like about his appearance”
We sought testimonials from some of Dr. Hair's clients but cannot use them here since the clients chose to withhold their identities.
