Foreign Secretary William Hague was humiliated in front of a class of 10 year-olds today when he failed to find the Falkland Islands on a map of the world.
Teacher Mrs Fiona Bedlam explained.
“He was droning on about his life in the foreign office and using our wall map to show all the countries that he has bombed and some that he is thinking of bombing. Chris then put up his hand.”
Chris Myers, aged 10, recounts
“I asked Mr Hague if he would show us the Falkland Islands on the map. His head went all red and sweaty and he started pointing around the edges of Scotland.”
Mrs Bedlam added,
“He mumbled something about the islands being too small and insignificant for map makers to bother with and then just flounced off.”
“Now I’m no geography expert, so, as most of the children were still asleep, I googled the Falklands and was astonished to see that they are in Argentina.
“I thought they must be somewhere near Cornwall, all the fuss that’s being made about them.”
