I sat my pregnant arse up until 2am this morning to see some election results, didn't, got woken up at 6.30 by my bastard children to a world where we still don't know who's running this bloody show, when my new car/coach is going to be ready for collection, what to cook eight sodding people for lunch tomorrow and how the hell I'm supposed to deliver a script the same week I'm due to deliver my baby. Piss poo arse bum bastard flipping bollocks.

Long day at the polling station yesterday. Up at 5 a.m. back home at midnight.

Good news about Caroline Lucas though.

Mr B has been plaguing me for weeks to tell him who I planned to vote for. For weeks, I've batted off his questions, citing my right to keep my vote secret.
This morning, Mr B, the son of an aspirational Tory voting Capitalist bastard got to hear in knowledgeable, political detail, EXACTLY what my political allegiances are, as I ranted about the unjust, and archaic system currently in place, and how Proportional Representation is a fairer, more democratic solution.

Oddly enough, for someone who voted Tory, basically because his dad told him to, he was very, very quiet when his rampantly Socialist wife displayed a political understanding way beyond his.

PS Send pics of the team bus, make a large paella for lunch - salad, crusty bread etc, and ask for an extension to the script deadline.x

I did the same - stayed up until about 2 when it was just as clear as it was when the polls closed and just as clear as it is now. I'll never get those few hours sleep back will I! I blame the politicians...

The most important electoral reform required in our great country I've decided is that the polls should close much earlier, let's say at 7pm, so that we can all see how the results are shaping up before we go to bed!

I say we change it to a phone vote. Each person eligible to vote has a code that must be keyed in prior to placing their vote, and that the polls do close early.

Even better, we could do it through Sky, you know, "Press Red to Vote Labour, Blue to Vote Conservative...etc". Then it could be live and interactive.
Much more 21st Century and exciting.

I'd support that Jeni, although I'd only vote for them if they 'owned the stage' and 'made that song their own'.

Seriously though, this is 2010, we shouldn't have to rely on little pieces of paper (if they've got any left at your polling station) to exercise our democratic rights should we.

I like the idea of using the Sky buttons. The colours are appropriate and we could introduce "press the dog turd in the garden to vote BNP"

I thought the BBC coverage was a little lacklustre, to say the least. David Dimbleby running on half speed for some reason. Fatigue? Old age?

And everyone they spoke to seemed to be the worse for wear too.

Just replacing 1st PTP with PR would be a bit of a bugger to the 6 or 7 constituencies who woke up to discover that they were to be represented by a BNP MP.

Having two chambers in a democracy one voted for by PR and one voted for by 1st PTP might work - if we can bear the thought of losing all those Lords and Ladies. That actually might be a change too far (my Dad would disown me for not instantly cheering the removal of all Lords).

Or we could have more MPs than there are constituencies and have two votes per GenElec done using both systems - with 'top-up' MPs added on top of the constituency representatives to account for the national vote split.

I was thinking on much the same lines as your 1st idea thisis...

That's 2 of us backing the idea - that's enough to make it law under a 1st PTP system isn't it?
