Ousted Liberal Democrat, Lembit Opik, is today denying that his humiliating defeat last night is a bad thing that spells the end of his career in the public spotlight.
Speaking from the offices of pharmaceutical giant, Reckitt Benckiser, he told reporters. "On the contrary, my spectacular and embarrassing defeat last night has been an excellent development for my future career. It leaves me free now to cash in on an amusing ad campaign for Lemsip. For years I have had to put up with a lot of half-arsed jokes about my unusual name, but quite frankly, who's getting the last laugh now, you suckers?"
The Cheeky Girls were unavailable for comment but it's understood that they intend to squeeze every bit of free publicity out of this PR windfall, and are understood to be rush releasing a new album on the strength of it.
