The Society of British Astronomers in association with exoplanet hunting website Zooniverse will announce the discovery of a new exoplanet tomorrow.
In a press release the Society explains how the phenomenon was detected:
"one of our members noticed a very slight but regular dimming and brightening of Simon Cowell's teeth over a period of months. On examining the variation in brightness a similarity was observed with what is known as a "transit event" across a distant star."
Kevin Walsh, chairman of the society explained further:
"We took careful measurements over an extended period to create a light curve from Simon's teeth. We then substituted it for that of a regular star in our search database. Every time the graph was presented for inspection by one of our hunters a transit event was reported, which confirmed our theory. While it would require something truly immense to trap an exoplanet in this way, Simon's ego would easily be capable of causing an entire planet to revolve around itself."
The team performed similar tests on Simon's fellow "X-Factor" Judges but found only a white dwarf and hazy nebula.
