A macabre and chilling tribute to the King and Queen of pop at tonight's Brits was deemed as 'too soon' by shocked audience members.
A bizarre marionette system was set up over the lifeless zombie puppets of Houston and Jackson before the familiar sound of Thriller echoed through the venue. As the beat grew the puppets, reportedly being controlled by the team behind The Muppets, sprang to life and danced around the stage to shocked silence from the celebrity audience. The dance, said to be choreographed by Tim Burton, included Jackson leaping over a hospital gurney and Houston jumping out of a bath before doing the Thriller zombie dance. Whilst the song grew, it was clear that it was 'mashed up' with Houston's smash 'I will always love you' which effectively crescendoed the sequence with the Zombie puppets seemingly ascending to heaven in a white light, embracing an Amy Winehouse puppet who was dressed as a zombie Virgin Mary.
As the scene ended, the presenter, James Corden, was unable to speak for a number of seconds before introducing ginger warbler Ed Sheeran.
