People from all walks of life have been paying tribute today to Jake Riley, a homeless heroin addict who died at the weekend aged just 34.
Often seen huddled in shop doorways around Leicester city centre, Jake touched many lives and was an inspiration to thousands. ‘I didn’t know him, never spoke to him or gave him any money, but he had a really profound effect on my life.’ said one bank worker, who often walked past Jake on his way to work in the morning.
‘There used to be this underpass by the station and I’d sometimes see him in there, muttering ‘spare change please’ as I passed by. Just a moment in his presence was a special gift, and I can’t believe he’s gone. What did you say his name was again?’
