Famous model kit manufacturer airfix today refused to apologise for it's controversial new model set which contains both the ARA General Belgrano and the submarine that sunk her HMS Conqueror. A spokesman said the set represents a signifcant event in British naval history and is timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the conflict. With tensions rising again between Britain and Argentina the kit has been criticised due to the controversial events surrounding the sinking which it represents.
The spokesman however did apologise for the missing instructions from the Belgrano model and said this was an oversight during production in China and that a recommendation on the companies website that model makers should "just scatter the pieces all over the bottom of the bath" was the action of one disaffected junior employee who has since left the company.
