With parts of the country covered in a blanket of snow and obscured by thick fog, some farmers have been having great difficulty finding their sheep over recent days. This has led one Leicestershire farmer to paint his sheep green in order to make them easier to find.
‘People are quick to realise the travel disruption that this sort of weather can cause, but they don’t think of the problems it can cause sheep farmers.’ said Thomas Brown, who came up with the idea on Saturday morning after tripping over a sheep he had failed to see, ‘Finding a white animal against a white background can really be quite tricky. They have been much easier to spot since I rounded them up and painted them green.’
When asked whether the sheep’s new colour scheme could cause problems once the snow melts, the fog clears, and they are left green against a background of green grass, Thomas replied ‘Oh bugger, I didn’t think of that.’.
