Following proposals that to celebrate the Royal Jubilee, the country should provide the Queen with a new Royal Yacht, the government has approved the scheme and revealed that the boat is already well under construction.
David Cameron announced that national cut backs mean that there cannot afford any aircraft for the yacht at the moment, but that yacht is actually to be one of a pair being built. In a press release he indicated, “The aircraft carrier, sorry, Royal Yacht is one of two being built, which we have allocated to the Royal Family. This generous gift by the country will actually save money as neither the Treasury nor the MOD has any budget to operate the vessel. Additionally, should the Queen ever wish to operate a squadron of US Joint Strike Fighters her yacht will already be fully capable. Should Prince Philip want a matching Royal Yacht we happen to have one going for a good price and I’m sure George can cut him a good deal”.
