As I've said before all my other US friends are hikers who a) stopped noticing politics around the mid-eighties and b) would vote for T.R Roosevelt every time on the grounds he seems real outdoorsy.
So I was wondering, how does Iowa look from your side of the pond?

Romney? Oh good it's been ages since a homophobic, climate-change denying, pro-life, religious nutcase was in the White House I've missed it. I've read the Book of Mormon anyone basing their moral values on that shouldn't be let near scissors let alone the White House.
But, heigh-ho, I'm sure I'll be the first one to complain when China replaces you guys as our Supreme Overlords and hark back to the good old days when people like Romney were in charge.

It'll be intersting now Obama has said he will cut the military. 1.5m on active service plus 800,000 in reserve and everyone else employed by the military industrial complex. If he hadn't just dropped that one on the voters then I would have said it was a re-run of Clinton's 2nd term run, but with a less popular president and a worse ecconomic situation, although that may be turning around over there.

PJ O' Rourke was on t'radio yesterday plugging his book and bemoaning the lack of a credible republican candidate, that must say something, but he was very funny saying it. I think he was more scathing than anyone from the US liberal wing I've heard, but I suspect the Democrats are pretty worried about running with Obama as well.
