In the latest attempt to distance the UK from Europe, the Government has announced that a range of tourist attractions will be renamed or redeveloped to imitate European sights. The intention is to dissuade the British from visiting European countries, so that their expenditure will boost the UK economy instead.
Measures that will come into effect from next year include renaming the Blackpool Tower the Eiffel Tower; Marble Arch will be known as the Brandenburg Gate; the Royal Exchange building will be renamed the Acropolis; the National Gallery is being renamed the Uffizi; and Edinburgh Castle will become "Schloss Edinburger".
Work has already started on the The most ambitious project: engineers are jacking up one side of the tower of Big Ben, to create what will be known as "The Leaning Tower of Westminster"
