Leaked information from the team defending Bradley Manning shows that he was deeply affected by the close family ties he had with his uncle, the late Bernard Manning. Few people know that British born Bradley spent many of his early years in the company of his celebrity relative. But Manning denies that leaked jokes like the Iraqi terrorist asking “does my bomb look big in this?” endangered US military lives. His evidence is likely to include some of the leaked wikijokes already secretly circulating among CIA and US diplomatic officials. His defence will argue that he wanted to give the jokes – which have infuriated Washington - a wider audience, as a tribute to his late uncle.
Many of the jokes will be deemed too offensive for the hearing. But Manning’s evidence will almost certainly include: “What’s the difference between a pilchard and the former secretary of state Madeleine Allbright? One’s got bulgy eyes and a strange smell, the other’s a fish. ”
“I visited Margaret Thatcher last week. I said 'Do you know who I am?' and she replied: 'No, but if you ask matron - she'll tell you'.”
“Two Swedish old ladies on a beach and Julian Assange walks past. One has a stroke, the other waits six months, then calls the police…”
