In a candid interview Ed Miliband’s wife, Justine Thornton, has admitted that the Labour leader isn’t even taken seriously by his own family, and is held in contempt by his two young sons, despite the eldest only being 2 years old.
‘Don’t get me wrong, I love Ed, and that’s why I married him, but there’s something about him that just attracts derision.’ admitted Justine, who insisted on being referred to as Ms Thornton, ‘Just the other day he went to take the dog for a walk, picked up the lead and said ‘walkies!’. The look the dog gave him was incredible, I didn’t know an animal could manage to convey such complete and utter disdain just with a look. Except for a cat of course.’
Ms Thornton also admitted that Miliband’s children ignore everything he says, and deliberately do the opposite of what he tells them. ‘I know that’s normal to an extent for a two year old, but Daniel’s even started hiding all of Ed’s red ties and just leaving out the blue one that his brother David bought him as a joke. Samuel hasn’t started speaking yet, but Ed’s hoping that his first word might be ‘daddy’ because Daniel’s first word was ‘idiot’ and he’s still a bit upset about that. I’m just hoping that he doesn’t inherit his father’s nasally voice and keep using the word ‘negotiate’ while managing to make it sound like it’s got the letter ‘s’ in it about three times.’
She also admitted that she had kept her maiden name so that she could avoid being associated with the Leader of the Opposition when it suited her.
‘To be perfectly honest it’s not just Labour supporters who sometimes feel like they would have been better off with his brother.’
