As details of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations continue to unfold, Buckingham Palace today confirmed that the Queen was undertaking spaceflight training to enable her to undertake a commemorative journey “beyond the usual round-the-world tour”. A palace spokesman explained: “It’s Her Majesty’s third major jubilee celebration, she’s done so many national tours and world tours, she’s visited everywhere on the planet, and she’s sat through every type of folk dance known to humanity. A tour into space, including a stop at the International Space Station, will give Her Majesty plenty of opportunity to enjoy spectacular views of all the countries of the Commonwealth in a short space of time without facing hours of watching dance displays, military drill, and small children with flowers”.
