Insiders at Hollywood's Universal Studios have heaped praise upon director Mel Gibson for his sensitive handling of the controversial 'kilt and caber' blockbuster based upon the Scottish Nationalist victory over the English in the bitterly fought 2010 general election.
Box-office results show Mel was right to cast teen sensation Zac Efron as the rugged, misunderstood underdog loner Taggart McBill, an unemployed sheet metal worker from the Vangoch Shipbuilders Yard who, against all odds pulls off a victory over the Limeys with a deciding vote cast with just seconds to spare. Incredibily overturning a comfortable majority of 232,749 to 1 held by the evil baby-eating Tory banker Baron Garth Va'dor.
Gibson proved critics wrong by casting pre-pubescent pin up Miley Cyrus in the role of campaign organiser Bonnie MyClyde who beats off grizzled Oscar nominated opponent Jack Nicholson time and time again while still finding time to play opposite him in the film.
'I don't care what the critics say about casting someone her age in such a demanding role' argued Gibson 'Miley might be twelve years old already but I think she proves she's not past it' said Gibson
Gibson is currently reading a screenplay about a rugged, misunderstood Scotsman who attempts to single handedly rescue the world from fiscal meltdown.
A spokesman for Universal said 'Mel seems to be really enjoying the script, he hasn't stopped laughing since he picked it up....although we didn't realise it was meant to be a comedy.
Guess we will have to ask Jim Carrey to play the lead now....Steven Berkoff's going to be really pissed.'
