To see what someone is tweeting, you have to follow them, and likewise, if you want someone to see what you've tweeted, they have to follow you.
Don't think there's any point, as such.
Sometimes the brevity of Twitter is more apt than FB, and it's not really about 'chatting' with one particular person, although you can, more about tweeting to the world at large.

unless ur settings are for privacy, all ur tweets are in public domain (beware!)
you can also search for subjects to check what's current aka 'trending' e.g MP #TomWatson & #murdoch are currently major trends.
u comment on a tweet by using 'reply' or
u can RT (retweet) any that u like/hate so that it appears on yr homepage timeline
takes a while to figure out the processes but it's useful to see comments on news immediately as it happens on your pc/phone.

Twitter is a useful tool. Follow lots of people and they will follow you back. You can dip in and out of conversations. When you have a few hundred followers you will feel important. When you have a few thousand, more so. When you have millions you can start to issue orders in no more than 140 characters, such as 'invade Poland now'

I've got bored with Twitter and now just read the tweets of in-the-know types like Andrew Neil (yes!). That's probably why I only have 2 followers now and I'm related to one of them.
People are such show-offs now aren't they? As if we want to know the minutiae of their office/family fucking lives?
At least with NB there is a point to it i.e. make others laugh and feel a bit humble when you don't get any stars.
Humility is good for people and there's not enough of it about. Sermon over.
I just don't get the obsession with announcing what you're doing all the time. Same with FB - I don't give a flying fuck if you've just had dinner, and no, I don't want you to 'check me in' to the pub. Anybody who I wanted to know I was here already knows, because I invited them to come for a drink.
People spend a lot of time trying to make themselves sound interesting, in the mistaken belief that anybody is impressed, or cares.
Sorry, time for my medication.

I'm not a Twitter poster, but a friend bought me a t-shirt for my birthday that says "Twatter: Nobody cares what you did today" which I like. I'm sure it's a good promotionl tool for comics and celebs though, and maybe a good way for for sales reps to post back to HQ what they have done that day. Can't really see the point for Joe Bloggs, apart from cyber stalking celebs which is creepy.

Twitter is great because it leads one to the realisation that if you cannot express yourself in 140 characters then you cannot express yours...(this joke works better on twitter itself)
But Twitter is not about telling the world how many French fancies you have consumed whilst choosing your next Saga coach trip holiday, it is a bit like an open pub conversation that you can contribute to as and when you choose. You can also choose who to follow: you have the choice of a large number of vacuous cretins as well as some very interesting people.
Many people tweet links to larger blows or websites, such as the mysterious author of the blog called 'Fernando's Bassoon'
Twitter is rather good.

Neither Mr 4fun. We only found out when we turned up for the first class of the new term to find that he'd left and was now studying for his PhD.

99% of the teaching staff are amazing. Last year's Year Tutor was one of the most inspirational and encouraging teachers/lecturers I've met, but there are a couple, both of whom have Doctorates, that are useless. One has no practical experience, reads all her lectures straight off her notes and is hopelessly thrown by questions and the other is now gone, thankfully.
