Nigerian Ex Finance Minister Colonel Ukwe Unchogo was today caught trying to board British Airways flight BA4235 to Heathrow today at Lagos airport with over two hundred million US Dollars in cash in a battered brown valise.
It is thought the cash was secreted away after the fall of the previous dictatorship and may have been related to bribes over the granting of oil licences in the oil rich delta region of Nigeria.
It is believed Col. Unchogo had made numerous attempts to transfer the cash electronically but due to the danger of collecting the suitcase from the vault at the Universal Bank of Nigeria had been unable to raise the funds to pay for the administrative fees involved in the transfer.
It seems Col. Unchogo had made a number of pleas to British subjects to help him pay the administration fees in return for a share of the money but due to a number of fraudulent schemes in the recent past had been unable to get the necessary help leading to his desperate dawn flight attempt.
Mrs. Ethel Marble (63) from Marple who had ignored Col. Unchogo's increasingly desperate pleas for help said "He seemed like a lovely polite gentleman but it seemed too good to be true and I didn't want to be made a fool of so in the end I refused." She then added "I can't say more, a man has just arrived to fix the gas meter although I didn't know it was broken"
