Retired caretaker Ian Powell, 68, of Ilkley has declared that all his efforts to stop global warming are futile and wasteful: "Every day just gets harder and harder since the Kyoto Protocol" said the former chair arranger, "My mate Bob frequently flies to Brazil with the job and on his return he plants a tree to offset his carbon footprint" he added.
"I don't fly anywhere, I don't drive, I can't put the central heating on as it kicks off my asthma and get all I need from the High Street so I'm buggered" he continued. "In order to maintain the balance I'm currently felling three trees a month and it's knackering".
"I've tried to sell my excess units of GHG by Emissions Trading on ebay under Article 17 of the Protocol but with the collapse of the Manufacturing base there doesn't appear to be a great demand. I've tried not recycling but it doesn't impact that much" he concluded.
