Unesco has granted Poundland a vote. This is seen as the first step towards full recognition as a country. The move has been opposed by 99p Land; "They think they're up market, but 99p Land is essentially the same place, but slightly cheaper."
Visitors to Poundland support the move; "I love Poundland", explained one, "if I had a pound for everything I'd bought there..."
