not sure if writing's involved but BBC breakfast news presenters desperately need a wit injection in their scripts. Bill Wotsisname & Sian Williams are especially dimwitted and have clearly been ordered to up the 'wisecracks' as part of dumbing down of beeb news progs.

BBC tv news has been aimed at low IQ audiences for years; radio coverage used to be good, but ‘PM’ has become a shadow of its former self, leaving only ‘today’ and the 6.00p.m. news for serious news coverage.
