With France still reeling from the recent allegations against Dominique Strauss-Khan and the collapse of his subsequent trial, a new sex scandal has blown up around another famous Frenchman. Pepe Le Pew, an aging Warner Brothers star, Parisian man about town and Skunk is facing charges of sexual assault stemming from a night he spent locked in a perfume shop with a black and white cat.
The plaintiff, known to the court only as ‘Mogs’ has told the court how she was thrown into the store by her owner in order to remove Mr le Pew, but after an accident with a bottle of white hair dye, ‘Mogs’ ended up with a white stripe down her back. “After that, he became an animal” said Mogs “He mistook me for a female skunk and he just wouldn’t leave me alone. In the end I had to jump from a first floor window into a water barrel to escape. The worst thing was, he kept blaming me for turning him on and he filmed the whole thing”.
Questions have already been raised about the true identity of Mr Le Pew. Skunks are not indigenous to Europe, only to the Americas, Indonesia and the Philippines, and stories are circulating that Pepe may in fact have entered France from the US in 1945 with Ernest Hemmingway during the liberation of Paris. Several papers are rumoured to be in a bidding war over photos of Hemmingway and Le Pew at the Ritz in Paris distributing champagne to Allied troops. One theory is that his true identity may be that of one Peter Stink from Arkansas, who was officially registered as MIA in 1945.
Whatever the truth behind his identity, a string of black and white cats are already coming forward to offer their own stories of unwanted advances from Mr Le Pew, many of which are said to be backed up with film footage. “He likes to project a sexy yet caring Parisian male image, but underneath it all he stinks” said one.
