The long-awaited by-pass for the town of Porthmadog in North Wales has finally been opened.
The event was marred by many members of the local council refusing to attend as the invitations had only been printed in English. And the rest of the Council refused to attend as they didn’t see why shouldn’t have a day off too.
Councillor Watkins however was willing to talk to us about the new road.
“It’ll be wonderful for the local economy, you know, wonderful. The new road sweeps in from the South East, bypassing a notorious bottleneck, then through the centre of town, out to the other side. And vice versa, of course.”
We queried the route with Councillor Watkins.
“Aye, the by-pass runs right though the centre of town. Well, passers-by would want to see the shops and stop off for a cup of tea and maybe a drink, wouldn’t they?”
