I'm actually very much against the US government picking and choosing which country's leaders live and which ones die. We would be very upset if another country decided to make that choice for us.

Triumph of pragmatism over pure ethics. Show trials dragging on, remaining elite all indited in his testimony, grubby deals with world leaders around the world exposed, prolonged incarceration like Hess or Milosevic, or awkward execution like Hussein? Pragmatically speaking- Chauchescu, Bin Laden and Gadaffi- a swift and violent end appropriate to horrific crimes may not be ethical in the slightest, but it is probably better in the long run.

Ah, well. The results of that method all depend on who is making the decisions.

I'm normally against it, unless the focus of their attention is some kind of evil foreigner or other.
Is this the first time the UN has done something useful?

Indisputably so, and I think being perceived as the policeman of the world is highly dangerous...particularly when America's motives can hardly be described as even-handed.
However, in this case, I think right answer even if wrong method.
Just remind Obama not to show his working out...it'll be fine.

Not the first time. The UN has also jump-started the careers of many Johnny Foreigners with hard to pronounce names.

I feel a bit sorry for Gaddaffi.
He should have had the chance to fly to Britain, for a public inquiry. Our public inquiries are the envy of the world.
Nobody does pageantry and pies like a Parliamentary Select Committee

So Gadaffi could have died as he lived, eating a pie?

And then escape prison by not dying due to a long and protracted illness.

Lovely piece of cross-subbing there Iron

Absolutely. No-one has a right to assassinate Obama but an American.

Odds are against it though. I understand that only about 1 in 11 US Presidents gets assassinated whilst in office. Not a very good hit rate for a nation with more than a piece apiece.
