As out of pocket expenses for egg donors is set to triple, potential sperm donors are threatening to hold back unless they receive similar compensation for their time and trouble.
"750 quid would buy some pretty decent subscriptions and also, you'd think, a bit of friendly assistance," commented regular donor Nobby Pirbright, who wishes to remain anonymous. "But facilities at my local clinic haven't improved at all, ever since I started coming here."
It's a serious issue. Without sperm donors, women wishing to conceive may have to have sex with a man. And Pirbright feels more could be done. "We're not asking the nurses to bend over backwards for us, though I have to admit, that may well help."
