The furore in horseracing over the introduction of new rules which strictly limit the way in which jockeys use whips has resulted in potential investor and financial heavyweight Max Mosley losing interest in the sport.
The British Horseracing Authority has announced its intention to stick with the rules, despite a number of jockeys voicing their anger at receiving fines or bans for using their whips with an intensity which wouldn’t even make Bernie Ecclestone flinch.
The BHA said, “We’re obviously concerned that some are being turned off with these new rules, but we assure you that many really aren’t that keen on being lashed relentlessly, especially when getting into the final furlong.
“Appropriate evidence needs to be considered and then the Review Group will make an executive decision about whether we should spice things up again.”
However, Mr Mosley presented a different slant: “If Kieren Fox is so angry, imagine how I feel.
“He only did 11 lashes and got a ban.
“Where’s the fun in that?”
