In a last desperate bid attempt to evade eviction, Dale Farm travellers have petitioned Basildon Council for the former scrapyard to be reclassified as installation art, taking their cue from Tracy Emin who revealed on the BBC's 'Who Do You Think You Are' that she shares a common ancestory with gypsies, no surprise there.
The hope is that the art installation, 'Our Yard', (2011, caravans, dogs, scrap, shite, measuring 0.5km x 0.38km) will be snapped up by the Saatchi gallery and rescued for the nation.
The chances of the site being added to the Basildon Public Art Trail are slim as Council leaders have warned that the budget for public art has already been spent on some lovely bronzes and a thing that looks like a very large gyroscope.
Meanwhile, Olympic 2012 organisers are hoping that displaced travellers do not take up residence within the new stadium - at least until after the Games. "Once that's done and dusted they're welcome to do what they like with it, because we haven't the foggiest," Lord Coe commented.
