The truth started to emerge today about the reasons for England Rugby Star Manu Tuilagi's extraordinary leap from a New Zealand ferry at the weekend.
"I only did it to keep in with the guys. The guys' respect means everything to me. Whether carousing in low-life bars, singing childish songs or giving lip to vulnerable chicks - those guys are the business and I just wanted to do something to make them look on me as one of them. That would be so awesome," said Tuilagi as he was besieged by reporters after landing at Heathrow this morning.
Becoming tearful, he went on:"The guys - Tinders, Harters, Ashters - you know the REAL guys as opposed to the guys like Wilks and Floody who just sit around reading books all the time - the REAL guys had been ribbing me because I was getting good press for being the only success on the field at the World Cup. I tried to hide the newspapers when they appeared at the hotel but they found out and it was Manu Manu Who's the Blue-Eyed Boy then? I couldn't stand it. So I pretended to get drunk and I jumped."
Tuilagi then broke away saying:"Gotta go now, gents, sorry," and started to run after his team mates, calling out:"Guys! Guys! Wait!"
