When 18-year old Accrington Stanley defender Tom Bender was knocked out in a match recently, family and friends feared the worst.
Tom's fine now and has been released from hospital physically unscathed. However, responding to reporters' questions back at Crown Park he has been repeatedly saying:"Who's this 'Tom' you keep going on about? George is the name.....George Best."
Tragically, Tom has forgotten who he is as a result of his head injury. Medical staff say there's no instant cure.
"We just have to wait till the effects of his trauma wear off - fingers crossed it won't be long," commented Dr Ravi Brahn of Accrington General Infirmary.
"Yeah, it's ...er....sad," added Ron Larkin, Tom's manager, beside the training pitch, breaking away to shout: "Magic Bestie son! Another hat trick! Time for your pint of voddy and an early bath."
