In a surprise move to gain popular support Prime Minister Gordon Brown has reverted to his real first name James in order to appeal to a broader range of voters. His team revealed he was born James Gordon Brown but dropped his first name at the start of his career.
A Labour campaigner said
Well we’ve got the black vote sewn up and most of the youth as well as they have all heard of James Brown and know he’s cool but aren’t quite sure who he was.
In a nod to his famous namesake the PM will pep up his answers in the final TV debate by shouting ‘owwww’ or ‘huuuuuh’ at the end of each sentence as well as dancing energetically.
Peter Mandelson has said
In our next party political broadcast we’ll just have ‘James’ read the lyrics to ‘Sex Machine’ slowly and precisely in a dour Scottish accent, we think it’s a winner.
It’s not the first time a PM has changed his name, former premier Tony Blair dropped his first name ‘Lionel’ after an unsuccessful bi-election campaign in 1982.
