The prime minister told Andrew Marr today that he understood that ordinary people were feeling the impact of rising energy prices, the cost of the family shop, and the wage freezes in the public sector. But David Cameron remained entirely silent about the further impact of increases in national insurance and VAT, reductions and removal of benefits, increases in public sector pension contributions and job losses in local councils and the public sector.
When pressed by Andrew Marr on the latter points, David Cameron pointed across the studio and said, "Can someone get Eric a pie? I think he's going hypoglycemic..."
