Changes to the employment law are being proposed which makes dying a legally grey area. As well as extended the length of employment before claims for unfair dismissal can be pursued, another change is that dying is no longer a reasonable cause for missing work - unless a doctor provides a note stating that the condition is "serious" (eg loss of head).
An expert in employment law explained, "Coupled with this is the effective raising of the retirement age to 67. The eventual plan is to make sure everyone's retirement age is always in the future. Effectively, everyone will have to work forever."
