Pepsi Cola have withdrwan their sponsorship from the trial of Dr Conrad Murray after ratings for the televised trial have suffered from viewers switching to the Amanda Knox appeal.
FOX network, who won broadcasting rights to the Jackson death gawpathon, had been negotiating with the Italian Judicial system to push the date of the Knox trial back a month but schedules previously agreed between Italian TV and NBC meant that this was not contractually possible.
Whilst advertising revenue of both trials has been hit by the clash, it's been Pepsi that has been first to jump ship and cover its losses. A spokeman for the Jackson family said that this was "a real tragedy for the memory of the King of Pop, product placement always meant so much to him and his family".
The trial is set to continue but loss of revenue means that the celebrity jury panel will see some well known faces replaced by members of the public or Steve Jones and Cheryl Cole.
The length of the trial will now be cut from 18 episodes to just 10, FOX are looking to get a cut down deal to procure the upcoming horse molestation charges against out of sort rapper 50 cents to replace the last 8 weeks.
