In a move that shocked the international community, scientists at CERN were today issued a speeding fine for breaking the light speed barrier.
Italian police entered the building at 9:30 am and issued the ticket to a stunned cadre of respectable physicists as they prepared to receive a a neutrino beam from the INFN Gran Sasso Laboratory located 730 km away from CERN itself.
'We have fixed penalties for this kind of thing,' a police spokesman said. 'Fifteen miles over the posted limit is £44 and three points on the licence but our radar caught them going way over that.'
All the scientist received the £300 fine and 6 month ban with considerable humility though a CERN spokesman claimed that they would 'appeal the fine'
