Pope Benedict XVI has met with victims of abusive priests. Visibly shaken he expressed his sorrow and regret. "If I had known of this, I would have stopped it. If only there was some kind of all-knowing being who could communicate news of such events to an earthly representative, or better yet, an all-powerful being who could put back the clock and stop it happening altogether. But, of course, that's very unlikely."

But how could I have known; it's not like there is some kind of all-knowing being who could communicate news of such events to an earthly representative, or better yet, an all-powerful being who could put back the clock and stop it happening altogether."
