Fans of the BBC's sequinned Saturday night dance show are up in arms at unguarded comments made by celebrity contestant Russell Grant.
"I only entered because I was able to predict I would win," explained the rotund astrologer. "Does anyone in their right mind think I'd go through the indignity of sprawling around on the floor (a reference to previous contestant Ann Widdicombe) or exposing my bumps and flab to millions (a reference to Felicity Kendal/Pamela Stephenson/Patsy Kensit) or leaping about flapping my hands wildly and inanely in the air (Peter Shilton/hand of God) if I couldn't be certain that I'd be lifting the trophy in a few weeks time?"
Head judge Len Goodman commented "If Russell works hard, who knows, it could be in the stars." Alesha Dixon added, "Yes, to win the final, all it takes is hard work, dedication, and lots and lots of talent, like me, I did it and look at me, look at me, look at me, look at me."
