Humour has parallels with advertising and graphic design. There are a whole load of clever ideas around, but the longer you do it, the more you work through the not very good ideas and actually push the envelope (as it were). So people thinking up funnies for the first time are working in areas where more experienced people have been before.
It's a journey thing.
As an example, the reason I discovered NewsBiscuit was by Googling 'Graudiad.' There was a story about any reference to 'Grauniad' officially no longer being funny. It had been done to death and had even passed into common parlance.
Get my drift? Hope you don't think I'm being sniffy, snobbish, cliquey or whatever. Bottom line is, when you think of a funny idea, think of a funnier one.
I may incur wrath here, but as the Government keep saying, we're all in this together.
