The Advertising Standards Agency announced today that they were investigating complaints surrounding the magazine part-work “Type 45 Destroyer!” which is published by RN publications ltd (which has nothing to do with the Royal Navy, allegedly).
The part-work series encourages the purchase of 900 weekly instalments of the magazine at an initial cost of just £1.50 for the first issue which comes free with the first part of the ship – an electronic compass reticulating flange. By collecting all the issues, readers can eventually assemble the parts to construct a fully-fledged Type-45 Destroyer. Devotees and Destroyer enthusiasts find it irresistible and once committed to the build will lie, cheat and steal to scrape together the funds to finish the project.
The latest completed Destroyer was recently confiscated by council officials in Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire following complaints from local residents about the size of the vessel in a suburban garden, the noise generated by the building process and the unwanted presence of Sailors.
Mr Ernie Timms, the vessel’s constructor told local reporters that he will be seeking legal advice after having his type-45 removed by the council.” It took ages to build and it’s wrecked my marriage but it’s a lovely ship” Mr Timms said. “Initially the Wife was fine about it and was even willing to let me sell one of her kidneys on e-bay but when I sold the kids into slavery it really kicked-off and she cleared off to her mother’s!” “I really miss her, my ship that is.” he added.
One irate neighbour said “The bloody thing was a huge and unsightly erection. I’m glad the Council took it away, it was blocking the light to my Tomatoes!”
Meanwhile, the Royal Navy have played down rumours that the recently sea-trialled HMS Dragon is in fact the same vessel as was confiscated from Mr Timms’ garden. “We understand that there are similarities between the vessel that Mr Timms has recently had removed from his garden but once you’ve seen one type-45, you’ve seen them all really” a Royal Navy spokesman said. “We have absolutely nothing to do with RN publications either [cough]”.
The suspicions aroused by the investigation of the “Type-45 Destroyer” publication have resulted in similar investigations into other part-works series. These include, “Bobby on the Beat – build your own community police force” and “One drug at a time – a hospital wing of your own”.

Love it. Needs a little tightening up, but generally a fantastically nuts idea. Superb!
