Got to mention this one as it gave me a big laugh at the time.
While driving over to see friends yesterday morning I happened to tune into talk sport on the radio whose presenters at the time were far from talking sport, choosing instead to talk nonsense about famous tear jerker movies from the past.
One of them mentioned 'Kez' and in particular the famous scene where the bullying yorkshire P.E. teacher played by and this was the hilarious bit Brian Sewell gives young Billy Casper a hard time about forgetting his P.E kit and subsequently menaces the life out of the poor young wretch for the rest of the lesson.
The actor who actually played the role was the late Brian Glover who you could definatley say was as far removed from being an art critic and general fop as could be imagined. Brian Glover for those that may not remember him was a actor from Yorkshire who also wrestled for a living and voiced the tetley tea man for their adverts back in the 70's and 80's.
The difference in Glover and Sewell is as immense as the North/South divide and had the camp arty farty Sewell really played the part i'm sure he may well have struggled to have got the essence of the role that Ken Loach would've been hoping for.
Imagine such gems as, 'Oh Billy, those shorts are so not 1970's' or 'football is so northern and vulgar. Couldn't you boys do some ballet instead. Oh for you to be Billy Elliot instead of Billy Casper'.
This may well be one of those it was funny at the time moments but it had me guffawing for a good ten miles at least.
