Congratulations to The Paper Ostrich whose topical riots story, ‘Looters apologise to communities for causing two days of visits by politicians’, was this month’s most read piece and scoops him his second Writer of the Month award. He will be presented with a NewsBiscuit mug and a new pair of Nike trainers at an impromptu ceremony to be held after dark this evening in the Tottenham branch of JD Sports.
Well done also to waylandsmithy and Screenie whose stories ‘Stella Artois launches new upmarket lager, Wifebeatre’ and ‘Community in shock as child is told off’ were, respectively, the second and third most popular stories in August. The remainder of the top five – Corrigan’s ‘Buyers of Che Guevara T-shirts to undergo basic education in irony’ and Qoxiivi’s ‘US debt crisis averted thanks to loan from Wonga.com’ – showed a similar mix of topical and non-topical stories.
Many thanks to all who cut short their holidays to deal with August’s unrest by posting satirical stories and one-liners on NewsBiscuit, and to red for his always excellent pictures on the front page – we will never be able to look at Colonel Gaddafi in the same way again.
