Why would I have wanted to go to somewhere in the North or something for University????

Do they have Universities in the North then?

I went to a little college in East Anglia and I don't think that I changed the way I spoke. However, 15 years later they had something of a reunion and commented that I was more well spoken than they remembered.

I went to the same college and while there acquired a nice new accent and I like it. Talking posh intimidates the poor and the worthless keeping them in their place. Scum.

Having scored a 'nice round number' of 'O' levels (that'll be after 'matriculation' but before 'GCSEs' for you younger chaps), I didn't get to go to University until my early middle-age; assuming 3x score + 10 + a little bit more. By then I had cemented in a seemingly permanent nasal west/north London whine. Think Ken Livingstone but without the winning charm.
I arrived at Kingston Poly' in sunny south east England just after it had managed to arrive at University status. It was either that or disappear into foreign -student 'college' nether land I later realised. My impression was that the lecturers were so far up their own passages, by virtue of that massive achievement, that they didn't notice the actual students for the first few months. One of my fellow students recounted how he'd foud himself on the same internal Australian airflight as the course director over the summer break. We reckoned that he'd seen him for longer during that flight than during the whole of the course itself. Happy days eh?
cheers

Please. No more input from the red brick college crowd.

I'll keep quiet now. If that's OK with you all?
