I am clueless on what exactly they did. Any simple explanation available online? It seems every day new info. is found making it get more complicated to understand. I just want to know the bird's eye view...

They found a way to listen in to people's phone messages.
No one gave s shit until it emerged they did it to The Dowler family. Turns out a bloke from the Guardian did it too.
Piers Morgan did it too. he's horrible
Frankly, I am surprised no-one has called the mobile phone companies to account for this for a shameless lack of security.
Anyone could call vodafone or whoever's phone message line, enter a mobile number, and then the default password of '1234' to access their private messages - because they set EVERYONE's password to 1234, and never told anyone that they needed to change it unless they asked.
Just explain that again please. What's the 'phone message line number? This sounds like great fun!
