It's a prop as famous as Gene Kelly's umbrella, or Groucho Marx's cigar. But Marlon Brando is to become famous again for a movie sequence - and a prop - that shocked the world, back in 1972. Two anonymous lovers meet in a hotel room, pledging to reveal nothing about their personal identities, except what can be expressed physically. Into this world, 40 years later, marches TV commercial director Anthony Chambers.
"Yes, that scene was designed to stay in the mind, and that is exactly why I want to use its dramatic power again. Our research shows that intelligent people in their sixties and older are looking for low fat dietary solutions in their everyday lives. Just the kind of audience who understand the reference of Brando and Schneider in this groundbreaking movie."
It's understood the commercial consists of thirty two seconds of the infamous scene, overdubbed, with a Brando soundalike breathlessly voicing over the pack shot with the name of the product.
Market research has tested 20,000 consumers to find what they naturally associate non dairy low fat spreads with. A surprisingly high proportion said anal sex, though many said Carol Vorderman.
