Thanks Plucky, how kind of you. Elmore indeed a major man. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Did he sing anything about going to the podiatrist and being advised to wear lace-ups instead of slip-ons on his 99 pairs of shoes for the treatment of corns? I speak from experience (corns, not 99 pairs).

Hi Mr Crow. I took it that he was going to wear 99 pairs of shoes at the same time. But it doesn't sound very practical. The other thing is that the cost of 99 pairs would surely have bought him a plane ticket or, at the very least, one for the coach. So the line should be:
'I'm going back South, if it takes me the cost of 99 pairs of shoes to get a plane or coach ticket'.
I expect it was a mistake. Good song, though. Hope all is well.
