Go ahead. I'm sure you've got scads of uber-funny homophobia stuff up your sleeve.

Your statement is a little confusing.
If you are calling lesbians 'sir', you may be homophobic without realising it...

Now "scads" isn't a word you hear that often - is it a euphemism?

    No, "rimming" is a euphemism.

I have to say that every time someone tells us something is off bounds it makes me wish more people would write about it. Whether something is tasteless or not has nothing to do with its subject. It is possible (not easy, but possible and who are we to forbid people from trying) to make quality and witty jokes about tragedies just as it is possible to make completely dull jokes about inoffensive things.

In the early stages of his NewsBiscuit career, the height of rikkor's wit used to be comments along the lines of: "He likes to take it in the a**."

    Discuss.

Oh, gosh. I do remember that bit of comedy gold: "Des loves to take it up the ass." Thanks for the reminder of simpler times.

Rikkor, I've misjudged you. It's just dawned on me: you actually think you are a dog. All that annoying snapping round the heels of threads, the jumping up at people, the random aggressive barking and maudlin whimpering - you're just being friendly and behaving naturally. So glad I got that sorted out.

I can't believe Des forgot to mention Rikkor's habit of sniffing around people's arses. Too obvious? Or a criminal oversight?

It's a comedy website, don't take Rikkor's comments so seriously. At least he livens the boards up a bit, like it or not.

We've been round the loop of "Are some subjects beyond the bounds" many times in the past, and I don't think anyone came to a conclusion before we got bored and started talking about celebrities from the 1980's or fish instead. "Would you be happy with someone making that gag about your situation?" was about the closest we ever got as I recall.

I noticed Newsbiscuit didn't run that "Business Cards At Winehouse Funeral" story, though I personally thought it was fantastic. Did it just get overlooked or was it judged too dodgy?

The FP/NIB selection process moves in mysterious ways, but personally I would have thought the death of a young woman to be beyond the pale for an FP. Put yourself in an Ed's shoes, would you be happy with the relatives and friends of the deceased reading that on a comedy website, no matter how funny?

That said, I've done subs about the war in Iraq. It's a fine line and not a simple one to draw.

Texty, the business cards at A. Winehouse's funeral bit was good because it was funny. And, that no one was shocked that she was dead long before 30. I guess it's the "funny" part that is so often found missing now.

On balance, I think Rikkor is a Good Thing.

You don't have to do what he says, but he is quite often right.

To paraphrase P.J. O'Rourke, whose politics and Rikkor's are much the same, once said that the difference between a conservative and a liberal is that the former would say you shouldn't joke about young people who died in shocking circumstances and the latter would say you shouldn't joke about young people who died in shocking circumstances AND that it's not funny anyway. Which you can prove wrong by telling the one about Amy Winehouse being cremated and her ashes having a street value of £100,000.

As that isn't funny, does that make you a liberal, or a conservative?

I think this comes close to the essential truth about comedy; the whole world can laugh along with you and still think you're a complete cunt.

I do believe that we still live in a democracy Oxy, and as such are entitled to the freedom of opinion and expression.

All Rikkor did was politely request that we show some respect to the families of those who lost their lives in terrifying circumstances. I don't quite understand what your problem is with that.

Unless you had some shit-hot sick jokes to make about it?

Rikkor's first comment on my stuff was "juvenile crap" - we haven't looked back since. Of course he's a Good Thing - he cares deeply about the site and is, after all, one of the five people on here.
