Audrey Slight (42) a housewife from Preston was amazed to find an image of the Lib/Deb leader in a Lyon's Battenberg cake, bought in Morrison's. Mrs Slight, a mother of four, said:

"I am not a religious woman, but I believe in something. Seeing Nick's face peering out at me made me realise that I was being guided by a force, greater than myself, towards a polling station. I am truly blessed'.

Audrey's husband, Spike, said: 'If you had asked me a year ago, if I had believed in god and in battenberg, I would have said "no". But this whole journey has made me revisit my list of priorities and - at the top of it - is a vote for the cake-inspired, Nick Clegg.'

If I remember a previous posting correctly, Mr and Mrs Slight must be relatively well-to-do (despite living in Preston), what with the price of battenberg being what it is an' all.

No, Mr Aunt, what I like wrote about before was like another family who found an image of David Cameroon in a Christmas Pudding. They were from somewhere else. 'Though I do have sympathy with all who live in Preson - not to be offensive, like - I have to go there as soon as my shoulder is OK.

I take no offence at sitting on a fence. I do like Battenberg, though. It is very close to my heart. I wish it were closer to my mouth.

If I am totally honest, this is just a contrived move to bring my sub to the top of the pile. I have no excuses. As the Rolling Stones once said: 'You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometime, you might find, you get what you need.'
