Organisers of Ed Fest, the comedy industry's annual trade show in Edinburgh, say TV execs are expecting record numbers of blow jobs at this year's event.
Though the number of commissioning editors in TV is down, the supply of aspiring TV comics is greater than ever. The imbalance of supply and demand means artists are having to go the extra royal mile at this year's event, if they want to secure their own show.
The theme at this year's ED Fest will be Clown Sourcing - a new concept where desperate comics submit their jokes free, over the Internet. 'Now I can rip off other people's work without even having to buy an American magazine or open the post,' said one Sunday newspaper political columnist, 'it's cut the cost of borrowing ideas and delivers other people's jokes at my convenience," she said. 'I can take credit for your work where I want and when I want at a price that's appealing."
